Garage Floor Coatings in Waxahachie TX - a finish built on clean, sound concrete

Stained, cracked or dusty garage concrete? We prep it, repair it and lay down an epoxy or polyaspartic coat you can park on.

Dark speckled coating covers a garage floor, with a raised edge at the driveway entrance.

A garage floor coating in Waxahachie starts with our crew preparing the bare concrete and repairing any damage, then putting an epoxy or polyaspartic system over it. Once that system cures, you can park on it again.

What goes into a garage floor coating in Waxahachie?

I own Slabworks Epoxy Floors of Waxahachie, and we're based here and work in many cities around it. Most garages I see have something going on at the surface, like oil spots, an old sealer, peeling paint or cracks. A coating is only as good as the concrete under it, and most of the floor failures I've seen started under the coat, so that's where we spend our time.

The price mostly turns on the size of your garage, how much repair and prep the slab needs, and whether you go with epoxy or polyaspartic. The schedule turns on those same things, plus how long the coating has to cure before a car can roll onto it. When I come out, I'll look at your floor and give you an estimate for your own garage.

Things we check before any coating goes down

A few things about a garage slab decide whether a coating holds. These are ones you can often spot yourself before I ever come out to look.

Moisture coming up through the slab

Damp concrete pushes against a coating from underneath. One coating maker's instructions test for it by taping a sheet of plastic over bare concrete for 24 hours. If droplets show up under the plastic, or the concrete looks darker there, moisture is trapped in the slab and has to be dealt with before coating.

Old sealer or paint

Sprinkle a little water on the floor, and if it beads up, there's a sealer on it. The same maker's instructions say a new coating may not stick well until that sealer comes off. Old paint is its own job, because scraping or sanding it can release lead dust, which is toxic, so tell me if your floor has been painted.

Grip when the floor gets wet

Water dripping off a car or a spilled bucket turns a smooth coating slick. One epoxy maker's guide warns that epoxy floor coatings are slippery with water or fluids on them, and it calls for enough non-skid material for how the floor is used. Ask any contractor what non-skid material their system includes.

What happens after you call us about your garage floor

From the first call to the walk-through at the end, here's who does what. I'm the one you meet first, and I'm on the job with our crew while they work.

  1. 1

    Call or send the form

Reach us by phone or through the form and tell us a little about your garage. We'll get back to you and set a time for me to come see the floor in person.

  2. 2

Look over the slab with me

I look over the concrete with you and point out cracks, old coatings and any sign of moisture. Then I explain your options and give you an estimate for your garage.

  3. 3

    Our crew preps, then coats

Once you're ready, our crew does the prep first, because that's what the coating holds onto. Then we put the floor down, so plan a spot for the cars until it's cured.

  4. 4

    Walk the finished floor

At the end I walk the floor with you so you can see how it came out. I also go over how to clean it and look after it, so it stays in good shape.

How we handle a garage floor coating

In a garage I look for four things: oil stains, old sealer, paint and cracks. Each one changes the prep, the same way a different breakdown on a tractor calls for a different tool. I'd rather find all four on the first visit than have a crew halfway into a job before somebody notices a sealer nobody mentioned.

Then we go over epoxy and polyaspartic floor coatings side by side, so you can see how they compare for your garage before you pick. We also talk about adding grit to the top coat, for the wet-floor reason above. If you want more than a solid color, metallic epoxy flooring gives a garage a swirled, poured look.

On prep, a concrete supplier's guide names mechanical profiling, roughing up the surface by machine so the coating can grip it, as the first choice and the safest one. Acid etching can work for some coatings, but that guide says it's hard to rinse out fully, needs good airflow and won't pull oil out of concrete, so oil spots need their own treatment.

Grit on top or smooth

Grit in the top coat gives shoes and tires something to hold when the floor's wet. The trade-off is a slightly rougher feel that takes a bit more scrubbing, and in a garage I'd take the grip.

Color flake or solid color

Flakes scattered into the coat hide dust, tire marks and small flaws in the slab. A solid color looks sharp but shows every speck, so most garages do better with flake.

Garage floors and permits in Waxahachie and nearby cities

Permits in Waxahachie go through the city's Permitting Division, which tracks and processes them and handles questions at its front counter. Whether a garage coating needs one isn't something I'd guess at, so we check with the permit office while we plan your job and handle any permit the work calls for.

The ground here matters to your house too. Most of Ellis County's soil is expansive clay, well above the Texas and national averages, and a local foundation repair guide says the Houston Black Clay under the area swells when it's wet and shrinks when it's dry. That guide calls the cycle the main cause of foundation movement in Waxahachie.

We do the same garage work in Midlothian, Ennis and other cities around Waxahachie. A lot of our calls are for attached two-car garages that have picked up years of oil drips, a coat of old paint or a sealer somebody rolled on long ago.

Why Waxahachie homeowners call Slabworks for garage floors

I grew up on a farm where anything that broke got fixed by us, and pouring and patching barn floors is how I learned concrete. After years on other people's crews, I started this business in Waxahachie in 2013. That's 13 years of looking at slabs and telling people plainly what a coating can and can't do.

When you call, I'm the one who comes out to look at the floor and go over the job with you. Our crew does the work, and I'm on the job with them. We're licensed and fully insured. Your satisfaction, guaranteed. If you'd like me to take a look at your garage, call (972) 903-8033 or fill out our form.

Polyaspartic Floor Coatings

Worth a close look if you'd like the garage back in use quickly, since polyaspartic is the faster-curing coat many owners weigh against epoxy.

Metallic Epoxy Flooring

For a garage that doubles as a gym, game room or showpiece, metallic epoxy gives a deep, swirled finish with a pattern that varies floor to floor.

Cities we cover for garage floor coatings

We're based in Waxahachie and coat garage floors in many cities around it, including Midlothian, Ennis, DeSoto, Mesquite and Grand Prairie. If you don't see your city, call and ask.

Garage floor coating questions we hear most

How much does a garage floor coating cost in Waxahachie?

Across the US, epoxy coating for a two-car garage floor usually costs about $1,100 to $4,300 per job. That's the national market, not our price. Where your floor lands depends on its size, how much repair and old coating removal it needs, and which system you choose, and I'll give you a figure for your own garage at the estimate.

How soon can I park on a new garage floor coating?

Polyaspartic gets you parking again sooner than epoxy. One regional coating marketplace says polyaspartic is often put down in a single day and ready for cars in 24 hours, while professional epoxy takes 3 to 5 days, cure time included, before you park. Any crack repair adds to that, so plan where the cars will go.

Is epoxy or polyaspartic better for a hot garage?

Polyaspartic, according to one regional coating marketplace. It says polyaspartic resists hot-tire pickup, where a hot tire pulls the coating loose as it cools, handles heating and cooling better and doesn't yellow in sunlight. The same marketplace says epoxy can soften in extreme garage heat, so if your garage runs hot, weigh that when you compare quotes.

Does a cracked garage floor need to be repaired before coating?

Yes. Concrete prep guidance puts repairs to cracks, and to spalling where the surface has chipped or flaked away, in the surface prep before the final coating goes on. A damaged floor needs that repair time in the plan, so we build it into your schedule from the start.

How do I get my garage ready for a floor coating?

Move the cars out and clear the floor completely, including boxes and anything along the walls, since our crew needs the whole slab open. Line up somewhere to park while the coating cures, and let me know if the floor has ever been painted or sealed.
