Epoxy Floor Coatings in Waxahachie TX - a coating built on a properly prepped slab

Stained, dusty or cracked garage floor? We grind the concrete, patch the cracks and lay a coating that fits how you use the space.

Dark gray speckled epoxy coating covers the floor of an empty two-bay garage with open doors.

An epoxy floor coating in Waxahachie, TX is a coating system we lay over your concrete, usually a garage floor, once we've prepared the surface so the coating has something solid to hold onto. Most of the real work happens before any coating comes out of the can.

What goes into an epoxy coating on a Waxahachie garage floor?

Most people call us when the garage floor has started to look tired. There's oil soaked into it, dust that tracks into the house, a few cracks, or an old paint job peeling up in patches. Before I talk about colors, I look at the slab itself, because nearly every floor failure I've seen started under the coating, not in it.

Price moves with the size of the floor, how much patching and old-coating removal it needs, and the system and finish you choose. The schedule turns on the slab's age, how soon you need the space back and the weather that week. I'll go over all of it on site, and the estimate gives you the figure for your own floor.

What we check on your slab first

Three things on a concrete floor decide how much prep it needs and whether a coating will hold. I point each one out on your floor so you can see it for yourself.

Cracks in the concrete

Cracks are normal in a garage slab, and most can be filled and ground flush before coating. A coating won't hide a crack that's still moving, though, so I show you which ones look settled and which are worth watching. It's the same as fixing equipment. You repair the break before you paint over it.

Old paint, sealer or coating

Anything already on the floor has to come off, because a new coating only holds as well as the layer under it. If that old layer is peeling, the new one will peel right along with it. We grind it away so the coating sits on bare concrete, and a lot to remove adds to the price.

Signs of moisture

Water working up through a slab is a common reason coatings lift. I look for damp spots, white powder on the surface and dark patches that don't dry out. If I find any, we talk it through before you pick a finish, because it can change what goes down or whether coating makes sense at all.

What happens when you call about an epoxy floor in Waxahachie?

From the first call to the final walk-through, here's who does what. I'm the one who comes out to see your floor, and I stay on the job with our crew while the work gets done.

  1. 1

Reach out by phone or form

Call (972) 903-8033 or send the contact form with a little about your floor. We get back to you and set a time for me to come out and see the slab in person.

  2. 2

I look at the slab with you

I walk the floor with you and point out cracks, old coatings and any sign of moisture. Then I explain your options in plain terms and give you an estimate for your floor.

  3. 3

    Our crew preps, then coats

Once you're ready, our crew does the prep first, grinding the concrete and repairing what needs it, then puts the coating down. I'm on the job with them, so you have one person to ask.

  4. 4

    We walk the finished floor

When the coating is down, I walk the floor with you and go over how to look after it. That's also a good time to ask anything you weren't sure about along the way.

How we put down an epoxy floor coating

I start by asking how you use the space and how soon you need it back, because those two answers pick the coating more than color does. A garage that sees two cars a day is a different floor from one where you roll a toolbox around on weekends. If yours is a home garage, our garage floor coatings page goes further into those choices.

We rough up the concrete by machine rather than with an acid wash. Grinding opens the surface evenly and takes old sealer and stains off with it, so the coating grips clean concrete instead of whatever was sitting on top. Acid can leave residue behind and does nothing about an old coating, which is why we don't use it.

I also ask how old your slab is. New concrete is still curing, and coating it too soon is like painting a barn door that hasn't dried out. If your floor was poured recently, we set the date around that instead of rushing it.

Shop and kitchen owners call us too, for floors that take carts, spills and daily washing. That work runs on the same idea of prep first, but the systems and scheduling are different, so it has its own page on commercial and industrial epoxy floor coatings.

Flake broadcast finish

Colored vinyl chips are scattered into the wet coating and sealed over. It hides small flaws and dust well and gives a little texture underfoot, which a lot of people like in a garage.

Solid color finish

One even color with no chips. It looks clean and makes it easy to spot a dropped bolt, but it shows scuffs and dust lines more than a flake floor does.

Epoxy floor work in Waxahachie and the cities around it

In Waxahachie, permits go through the city's Building and Community Services department, which also handles plan review and building inspections. Whether a coating job like yours needs a permit is the city's call, so we check with that office while we plan your job and handle any permit the work calls for. You're welcome to ask them yourself too.

Summer is the other local thing to plan around. Normal daily highs around Dallas-Fort Worth sit near 96 degrees in July and August, and heat changes how quickly a coating sets up. If you're aiming for a midsummer job, bring it up when we pick a date so we can talk through the timing.

We're based in Waxahachie and work in many cities around it, including Midlothian and Ennis. We see newer homes with fresh slabs, and older garages with years of oil and old paint on them. The prep looks different for each, so I look at the floor before I put a price on it.

Why Waxahachie homeowners call Slabworks for epoxy floors

I come out myself to look at your floor and go over the job with you, and I'm on site with our crew while they work. We've been in business since 2013. I'd rather spend an extra hour showing you what's going on with your slab than watch a floor peel up later, so expect a fair amount of explaining.

We're licensed and fully insured. Grinding concrete puts up fine silica dust small enough to breathe in, and the federal safety rule on that dust puts the duty to limit it on the employer doing the work, which on your job is us. Your satisfaction, guaranteed. If you'd like me to look at your slab, call (972) 903-8033 or use our estimate form.

Questions about epoxy floor coatings in Waxahachie

How much does an epoxy garage floor cost around Dallas-Fort Worth?

An installed residential floor coating system in the Dallas-Fort Worth area usually costs about $5 to $12 per square foot, going by what local contractors advertise. Where your floor lands depends on how much repair and old coating removal it needs and the system you choose. I'll give you the figure for your floor when I come out.

How long should new concrete cure before putting epoxy on it?

New concrete is commonly cured for at least 28 days before coating, unless the system is designed to go down early. If your garage floor was just poured, you can plan the coating after that wait or ask about a system made for early use. Tell me the slab's age when you call and we'll plan from there.

Is grinding better than acid etching for epoxy floor prep?

For most high-performance coatings, mechanical prep like grinding, shot blasting or scarifying is preferred over acid etching. When you compare quotes, ask each crew which prep method they plan to use and give a mechanical method more weight. That's the reason we prep by machine, as I covered above.

Should I get epoxy or polyaspartic on my Waxahachie garage floor?

Polyaspartic is worth a look if you need the floor back quickly or sun hits it through an open door, because makers describe it as fast curing and resistant to the sun's ultraviolet light. Those traits can change which product suits you and how we schedule the job. Our polyaspartic floor coatings page goes into it further.

How soon can I park in my garage after an epoxy coating?

You can park once the floor reaches its return-to-service time, and that comes from the specific product's data and the conditions in your garage. Ask every installer you talk to for that time. I'll give you ours for the system we pick, and it's one of the things that steers the choice.
